I have not had a drink of alcohol for at least 6 years. I am definitely not trying to convert people to stop drinking if they don’t want to. It is just a choice I have made.
The first difference is control. I have so much more control over myself and my nights out. I love feeling crystal clear when both going out and in particular the next morning. Now when I talk to people and threy are drunk or getting drunk, I notice it more and also don’t want to be like that anymore.
I go out a lot, in fact more now than I did before I stopped drinking. I go to loads of bars etc and it does not bother me in anyway not to drink.
People do often ask me about this but either they get used to it or they persist and that shows more about them than me. But a lot of my friends will invite me out for a non-alcoholic beverage rather than for a beer.
After a while you get used to it. Remember, there was a period in my life when I thought I could never enjoy myself without drinking and that it would be boring without drinking. I also thought the same when I cut out sugar whilst I was doing some heavy training. I am back on sugar now though!
I go out more for either the people I am with or the event itself rather than for the comfort of drinking. And when I drink the alcohol free stuff, it feels like I am a real man anyway.
So, those are my experiences. Let me know your experiences without alcohol whether that was a day or a year or more!
